what does it mean when your antibodies are high

I am being sent to a endocrinologist by my family doctor as she said one of my antibodies is high. What does this mean?

Re: what does it mean when your antibodies are high

Well it depends on which antibodies are high - basically thyroid stimulating antibodies cause Graves disease (hyperthyroidism) and if suppressing antibodies are high you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and develop or already have hypothyroidism. I'm guessing you went to see your doc because you have some sort of symptoms - what kind of symptoms? And you obviously had you thyroid labs taken. Ask for the specific results and we may be able to tell you more
