I don't know but I would think it means large & over shadows other features of the thyroid. Fam

It means that you have more then one nodule in the thyroid; the biggest one is called dominant. The multinodular goiters with dominant nodule present are more prone to get the cancer then these without dominant nodule. If this nodule is solid and larger then 1 cm biopsy is recommended.
Good luck

Re: what does it mean when a diagnosis says dominant nodule in thyroid

I have 12 nodules with 4 being dominant.....4 largest.....I have an ultrasound every 6 months now. My largest is 2.7cm....I am going on my 3rd year of monitoring....... Good luck, do not worry, get it checked out.
Many people have nodules and do not even know it. Let us know what happens........ Oleander
