What does Ultra Sound results mean?

Ultra Sound Results: FINDINGS: Isthmus appears heterogeneously dense and measures 0.7 cm, slightly enlarged. Right lobe is heterogeneous enlarged measuring 5.4 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm with multiple areas of irregular echotexture, one is slightly lobulated and measures 1.1 x 1.5 x 1.4cm. Increased color flow in the right lobe is incidentally demonstrated. Left lobe is smaller, difficult to visualize and measures 2.3 x 1.0 x 0.9cm. No focus of abnormal color on the left is seen. IMPRESSION: 1). Previous left thyroid resection questioned with asymmetry of the thyroid. (2). Nodular change right lobe with increased vascular flow.

Correlation with a nuclear thyroid image might be of some benefit.... Thirty years ago I had a nodule on my left lobe was given Synthroid for 30 years. That kept the nodule from growing. For the last 2-3 years I have gone to numerous dr's to try to regulate my meds.

Just recently my TSH was 46.28 when it should be a 5 or under.I am taking 200 of the Synthroid and 25 of the Levothyroxine. Doc noticed a lump on my right thyroid and ordered an ultra sound. Nurse asked if I had my thyroid operated on on the left side and I never did. She said it appears to have been taken out.

What happened to it? Did it shrivel up? Also, now they want me to do a nuclear scan and I am suppose to stay off the meds for 4 weeks before doing the test and nurse said she wasn't sure if doc will want to do that since my TSH is so very high and out of control while taking meds. Anyhow, I have been so very tired, and my legs hurt very badly when i walk just a few feet and they are swelling. My skin is dry and I am just darn right tired. Just don't feel good!

Is there a possibility I have cancer of the thyroid by what the results showed? I don't go back to the doc until next Tuesday. He's been on a two week vacation and I have been waiting to talk to him about the results. Thanks for you time and knowledge......

Re: What does Ultra Sound results mean?

I can speculate that the nodule at the left was actually inflamed area; with the time the thyroid tissue transformed into the scar tissue of higher density. Other possibility was that the nodule undergone cystic degeneration become cyst and then shrunk.
The appearance of the right lobe is commonly associated with inflammation [which also may demonstrate low RAI uptake}; the largest nodule must undergo biopsy.

Re: What does Ultra Sound results mean?

The increased blood flow is a red flag according to the radiologist report that I have read. You definately need the scan.

Your swollen legs need a diagnosis ( heart problems, allergy to any meds?) Get your legs up at heart level as much as possible. Soaking in a tub of hot water might help as well. Vaseline is the best thing to put on your dry skin as soon as you bath.

Hanes support hose offer great support in my experience. They can be washed in the washing machine.

How is your blood iron level (hemoglobin.) A low iron level can make you "bone tired." Using an iron skillet will help bring up your iron level if you can't take iron pills. Important: don't take iron pills unless you have a lab test that says you have low iron as too much iron can harm the heart.

Are you sure you are taking your Synthyroid correctly? Heard one Endo on XM radio say that we shouldn't drink anything but water with our pill. This includes not drinking coffee or tea. Then you know that you have to allow a certain number of hours between Synthroid & breakfast & your other meds.

Are you taking a dye free Synthyroid? The 50 mcg tab is dye free. BTW we can develop allergies to meds etc even after years of taking them. Fam
