Hyperparathyroidism--Low Normal PTH and High CA 4 mo. Post Op
I'm hoping somebody might have some info for me, although I hope for your sakes you don't!
I had surgery with Norman 4 mo ago. At the time I had Calcium from 10.4-11.4 and a PTH of 123. After the surgery I didn't feel that "amazing" results but I DEF noticed an improvement that did become pretty drastic. MUCH MORE energy (I am 27 so it was crazy for me to be so tired), the hair loss completely stopped within a week and ZERO cystic acne (I'd developed horrible back acne). No more bone pain and over all better attitude.
Fast forward to now: 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out at the rate it was at it's worst pre-op!! 2 weeks ago my acne started back up again (huge blemishes popped up, then more) and now I am realizing my concentration has been shot for the past 2 months (I couldn't figure out why I couldn't concentrate on studying for the bar). So last week I finally got the post op labs done and my PTH is 10 (!!!) BUT the Calcium is 10.6 (or 10.1 I couldn't tell from the labs and there were two results which was odd). Needless to say with my schools health insurance about to terminate and my job delaying my start date until Jan I am scared.
I guess my question is pretty simple just wanted to give some background: Has anybody had low normal PTH and still had high calcium plus the return of symptoms? I've emailed Norman but after reading some of the past threads here I'm afraid he'll dismiss me with "nothing is wrong."
Any ideas (at all) would be much appreciated. It's 2.5 weeks til the bar exam and I am devastated that this problem has been quietly causing havoc in my life yet again. My primary doc was via my schools health center which is closed but if anybody knows of any good (or great) endos in the SF Bay Area it would be much appreciated. Also if anybody has questions about Norman I am happy to answer them. He's great at what he does, but look to Poltz for the bedside manner you'd want after a surgery like that altho Norman was very nice to me and my mother (just a bit busy and in a hurry which I felt was understandable)I understand where some of the negative things about him come from, but for me as a law student, I am use to dealing with people who are type-A and horrible so he was really nothing. lol.
