I read some time ago that there is link with thyroid and high cholesterol. About four years ago I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and am taking simvastatin. Had thyroid surgery when I was 19 and am now 65. It's hypo now. I really would like to get off this medication and try niacin. I haven't talked to my doctor. I'm a little worried about getting off it because of the link but would like to try. Would anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks
Poorly treated hypothyroidism can lead to high cholesterol. Mine had gone very high before I started treatment.
Do you have hypo symptoms? Do you feel optimized on your thyroid meds? Any thyroid labs you can share?
