Question Very Confused!!

A little history about myself. I am a 35 yr old female, I had a hysterectomy (total) about a year ago due to cervical cancer. For about the last three months I have felt horrible. I am constantly tired and have absolutely no energy yet when I go to bed I can not sleep. My muscles always ache and for the last month my ankles and hands have been swelling off and on. I went to see my pcp and he ran a basic thyroid test. That test came back high so he sent me in for a thyroid ultra sound and scan and uptake. He said the ultra sound was clear maybe a small nod or two but nothing he would worry about right now. The scan and uptake however came back saying I was very Hypo thryroid. So he sent me in for a more detailed round of blood test including the antibodies. He just called and said those were normal. I do not have the actual numbers. He is sending me in to see an endo doc. Has anyone has just conflicting results before? I am getting a little scared. What else can they do to test this and figure out what is going on with me>

Re: Very Confused!!

You need to get a copy of your most recent labs and post here along with the ranges. I had very similar symptoms as you (swelling hands and feet) and I'm very hypo. Often docs simply order the wrong tests or don't know how to read them correctly.

Did your doc say what size the nodules on your US were?

Re: Very Confused!!

The tests you had don't conflict. The test that came back high was most likely TSH. High TSH is the hallmark of hypothyroidism.

Negative antibody tests don't rule out hypothyroidism. Up to 20% of the people who test negative still have the autoimmune disease responsible for most cases of hypoT.

I hope you won't have to wait much longer for a thyroid prescription. Sounds as if you truly need it.

Re: Very Confused!!

He said the nodules were very very small and barely showed up in the ultra sound. I go to see the endo doc next week, so I am crossing my fingers!
