Hypothyroid problems
I'm hoping that someone can help answer questions about my thryoid problems.
I went to the doctor about a year ago and she had me take a blood test to check my thyroid and other things. She said I was "a little hypothyroid" and started me on 50mgc of Synthroid. About two months later I got another blood test and she kept me on the 50mgc of Synthroid.
At the time, I did have some hypothyroid symptoms. Over time, however, I noticed my symptoms getting increasingly worse. It's like the Synthroid makes the numbers better, but doesn't do anything for the actual sypmtoms.
I went to see her again recently and told her this, but she told me that if the numbers were good, I was fine, and my symtoms are unrelated. When I told her how I am always cold, sometimes even in the 80's (F), she said that "some people are just cold" and there's nothing I can do about it.
I got my test results back today, and she did up to me 75mcg of Synthroid. It seems to tell me the results from all three of the tests that I took, and I think they seem a little weird; being high, then dropping a lot, then going back up. This is what it says:
Component|Reference Range|6/5/2008|8/11/2008|7/20/2008
TSH | 0.40 - 4.70 uIU/mL | 4.99 (H) | 0.50 | 3.48
It lists nothing else but the TSH.
I guess I want to know if my symtoms really are unrelated, or if my thyroid problem isn't really being treated properly.
Here are the symtoms that I have from a list that was posted in the "Thryoid Informaton" thread:
I am gaining weight inappropriately
I am constipated, sometimes severely
I have hypothermia/low body temperature (I feel cold when others feel hot, I need extra sweaters, etc.)
I feel fatigued, exhausted
Feeling run down, sluggish, lethargic
My hair is coarse and dry, breaking, brittle, falling out
My skin is coarse, dry, scaly, and thick
I feel depressed
I have feelings of worthlessness
I seem to be losing interest in normal daily activities
I'm more forgetful lately
My hair is falling out
My eyes feel gritty and dry
My eyes feel sensitive to light
I have tinnitus (ringing in ears)
I also have this weird thing where my nose feels very dry, and sometimes breathing through it is very irritating and painful (especially when the air is cold or when the air conditioner is running). I don't know if it's related, but it started when this thryroid thing started.
Some of these symtoms are hugely affecting my quality of life and making me very miserable.
