Has anyone had sharp, stinging pains in their eyes that last for just a few seconds? I was wondering if this had anything to do with my hyperthroid disease?
You may have Graves eye disease. I have Graves and Hashimotos and Graves eye disease. My eyes are achy/painful most of the time. You may want to read about thyroid eye disease and see if it applies to you.
How often do you have eye pains? Everyday? How often throughout the day? You may want to seek a opthamologist that has experience with thyroid patients.
I know with me, my eyes mostly ache or are painful, but my eyes do not bulge or bug out. Sometimes I do go through periods of inflammation that last a couple of days where I experience extreme sensitivity to sunlight, watery, red, bloodshot, and my vision is slightly distorted.
The TSI antobodies which is a marker for Graves can sometime effect/attack the tissue arund the eye's in some people with thyroid problems.
I have had sharp pains in my eyes on/off for many years. It happens mostly in the morning when I first wake up and rub my eyes although it has happened other times throughout the day. I have hypothyroid and was diagnosed with that a year ago. I also have hashimotos.
I went to an opthamologist years ago for the eye pain, and he couldn't find anything, just told me don't rub my eyes!!
I've read up on it a bit and see that both hypo and hyper can cause eye problems. I have very, very dry eyes and they act up especially whenever I get into the car. It can be miserable to drive and the artificial tears only work for a few minutes.
No, this stinging doesn't happen everyday, just once in awhile. It's been a couple of years since I was sent to the eye Dr, but if it can't be fixed, why waste the time and money? I just wondered if it might be related. Thanks for the replies.
