About 4 months or so ago I had blood work done to see what my cholesterol was, that was fine but they found out my thyroid was way out of whack! I was "hypo", so the Dr. started me on 125 of synthroid. I felt great! Albeit sometimes a little bit hyper, but in general, more energy than I have had in years and I lost those stubborn last few pounds I had been trying to lose.
Six weeks later I had to have my levels re-checked, well my TSH tanked, I went to .02 so the Dr. lowered my synthroid to 75. In the following 6 weeks I began to feel crabby and less energized plus I gained 5 pounds!
I had more bloodwork done after being on the 75 for six weeks and just went and saw the Dr. yesterday. I was sure that because I had gained weight my levels would show me being hypo again and he would just adjust my dosage. Wrong! My TSH was even lower! Down to .01 when it should have been coming back up. This made my Dr. suspicious that it is something else going on. He even mentioned the possibility of a tumor on pituitary gland!
I'm just freaking out here, I am scheduled for an ultrasound tomorrow and the Dr. took more blood before I left his office yesterday to look for some kind of antibodies or something.
Could someone please ease my mind here. Please tell me everything will be okay, I am so scared.
The doc should not be using the TSH for dosage adjustments but looking at the free T3 and T4 to make diagnosis and dosage changes.
Post your labs and ranges here
TSH is going to tank when you are on hormone replacement. Your doc needs to treat you by your symptoms and by your free T3 free T4 levels, which need to be at the top of their ranges to be at therapeutic levels. If he refuses to do that then you will continue to have hypo symptoms. You will have no choice other than to find another doctor.
