What does it mean when your antibodies get lower?

I was tested for antibodies in Feb. 2008 and my TPO for Hashi's was over 400. When I had them retested a week ago they were 281. Does this mean my thyroid is getting better or that it's burning out?

Unfortunately you don't "get better" from Hashi's. Autoimmune diseases don't have any known cure as of yet. But they do tend to wax and wane and even go into remission with periodic flairs. Hashi's is best managed by raising thyroid hormones to where the thyroid is inactive and this can stop the antibody attacks.

It's possible your thyroid is burning out. If this is the case and if you aren't currently medicated, you would have an increase in hypo symptoms. Selenium suppliments can also lower antibodies.

Maybe others here have other reasons why antibodies would fall.

LOL! Mine were cut in half after I stopped being over medicated on Methimazole and took selenium for about 4 months. I don't know if you can keep on taking selenium supplements forever or do you have to stop? Anyone know?
