How long did it take for your cholesterol to improve after taking Levoxyl?

When I was diagnosed about a month ago my TSH was 99 and my cholesterol was 297

I started taking Levoxyl 25 for 3 days, then 50 for a week, then half of a 125. My TSH dropped from 99 to 67 to 22 and now is at 7. Dr had me up my dose to the whole 125 after this last test result. I've been taking the 125 for a few days now. I am feeling better, though not 100% by any means.

I'm encouraged about my TSH but concerned about my cholesterol. He'll be testing it along with the complete thyroid panel in 4 weeks.

Those who had high cholesterol as a result of your hypo, how long did it take for it drop and was that drop significant?

Thanks!

Re: How long did it take for your cholesterol to improve after taking Levoxyl?

Once your thyroid levels - free T4 and free T3, not just TSH - are ideal for your body's needs, your cholesterol should come down within a few months. But with TSH of 7, you certainly aren't there yet.

At the onset of my thyroid treatment, my numbers were:
Total ------ LDL------ HDL
231 ------- 148 ----- 51

After I reached my optimal dose/levels a year later, my numbers were:
Total ------ LDL------ HDL
212 ------- 115 ----- 62

These improvements happened just from thyroid treatment, no other changes in diet and/or exercise. But my starting TSH was only 7, so it's possible you may see even greater improvement than I did. I hope so!
