Please help with my confusion about iodine.

The more I read the more confused I'm getting. So I've determined that anytime I take a supplement containing iodine or use a product with iodine or sodium chloride I either break out or become severely dizzy. But don't all thryoid meds contain iodine, and isn't it in your thyroid already? So why am I getting such a severe reaction when I take it if my body needs it?
