Sorry for all the recent posts, but I'm confused as to what to do. My dr. wants me to add T3 since my FT3 levels were on the low-normal end, but all my insurance (Medco) covers are the generics of Cytomel and all the natural thyroid meds (Armour, Naturethroid and Westhroid). I really don't want to take generics of any thyroid med, but it looks like I won't have much choice. So of all of the T3 meds, which of the generic do you think would be best?

I'm almost certain that the FDA has stopped production of the generic dessicated products until they apply for new drug status.

"Real" Nature-throid is cheap. I pay cash price because it's actually cheaper than my co-pay. I just bought a 90-day supply for $23 and change for 2-grain tabs. Armour used to cost me something like $45 for a 90-day supply.

Two of the US labs making desiccated thyroid have been shut down by the FDA because they started production after the FDA came into being and therefore didn't have grandfathered status. RLC labs that makes Nature-throid and Westhroid is still up and running but the problem with them is they are seriously backordered in supply because so many people have abandoned Armour after the reformulation and gone over to them. I can't find any in my area and I've heard that many are desperate for some.

I'm going out of the US for my meds, just ordered some but not allowed to discuss this here. Anyone wants to PM me I can give you more info.

Maybe I'll just try the generic Cytomel for now until the natural thyroid situation gets worked out. I know a friend of mine who takes Armour could only find one pharmacy in our area who carried it. I don't want run into the problem of switching from Synthroid to Armour and then not being able to get it right now.
