do thyroid meds raise blood pressure?

my blood pressure has always been low, usually 110/70 but it's been as low as 90/60. today i took it myself at one of those drugstore machines and it was 129/79. also my pulse was 90...it used to be in the 60s. should i be concerned? i've thought for awhile that i'm on too much levothyroxine, but at the last appt. my endo didn't recommend lowering it any further (i'm on 88mcg).

what do you think?

thanks,

erika

Re: do thyroid meds raise blood pressure?

It would be good to see what your labwork says about your levels of free T3 and free T4. Drugstore BP machines may not be all that accurate and you might be better off using the same cuff you usually use at home and doing it under relaxed conditions. But if your pulse stays up around 90 you might be a tad hyper. Take some readings the same time of day for a few days and chart them and tell your endo if they stay higher than your normal levels.

Re: do thyroid meds raise blood pressure?

I just recently went hyper on synthroid, and I too always have low blood pressure, but mine did increase to around 120/80 and it's usually 110/70(it was taken at my yearly gyn appt. one week before I found out I was over medicated). My pulse also increased to high 90's.

I want to add that I was having hyper symptoms (confirmed by low tsh and over range t4 levels) but didn't know it. I actually thought I needed a dose increase because I had many symptoms that I had when my tsh was 8! This is so confusing isn't it! I don't know how long ago your last blood test was, but you may want to have your levels checked again, just to be sure. Good Luck
