Hormone replacement after lobectomy

My Doc says to check my THS levels at 4 weeks to see if I need replacement. Is there anyone who has done fine and not needed any synthetic. I was told that the other side can pick up and work just fine. Is there anyone out there who hasn't needed anything and what is left of their own thyroid has worked great?
