Will my future children have problems?

I heard someone with hypothyroidism can have babies that have mental disorders or other problems. As long as I am taking my medication while pregnant this should not happen right?

(ps - not pregnant now. Just for future research)

When you're treated properly (ie. your thyroid levels remain right for You, not just "within range" or somewhere close to the range) there shouldn't be greater risks.

I have never heard this and frankly it sounds bizarre to me.

First, this is rare, because the baby will usually take what it needs from you before you even get to use it (they are kind of like parasites in that way). Second, you would need to not be taking enough medication.

Many people walking around, even people you know that you've never discussed it with, have hashis, and have had wonderful healthy babies. When I've mentioned thyroid at work or with friends, I couldn't believe how many people had been on synthroid for years and years.

My mother in law had two very smart babies (my husband and his sister) in the '60's and believe me, even though they medicated her for hashis, it wasn't necessarily monitored in every shape or sound, probably just the old tsh standard.

You might want to work with a reproductive endocronologist when you are deciding to get pregnant to make sure everything is fine.
