newly diagnosed thyroid issues

Our 15 year old son was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. His thyroxine free level is 0.358, and his TSH level is 100.00. According to his lab work TSH should be between 0.27-4.2, so 100.00 is extremely high. I understand how the hormones work and understand that with a low t3 and t4 his TSH should be elevated, but this high? His doctor is running more tests. What could cause his TSH level to be raised this high?

Re: newly diagnosed thyroid issues

my TSH levels were 127.13 and they told me its cause my thyroid is essentially dead.. I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis. Hope that helps. The doc had a ultrasound done and tested my free t3 and free t4 levels as well as thyroid antibodies. Not sure what it all means because I am newly diagnosed and still trying to figure out whats going on,..
