If you experience something odd, after any surgery, you should call the surgeon's office and make sure it's not an emergency. Particularly, after this surgery, sometimes your parathyroids go, and you would need calcium.
Also, if you are taking pain meds, those have a lot of side effects as well (dizziness, tiredness, constipation, etc.) There is going to be a lot of swelling in your throat for months, so you might want to use advil/motrin and ice to help ease that feeling.
The tightness in the chest is nothing at all like I experienced---I think you should call your doctor and make sure that's nothing, it sounds very scary to me.
