elevated thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibody

Hi there,

I was tested for thyroid disease becasue of numerous nodules.

My T4, T3 and TSH were all normal.

thyroglobulin antibodies came out at 763.0 (normal range is less than 60

thyroid peroxidase antibody came back at 537.1 (normal range is less than 60)

any opinions on what this could be? I first see the doctor on Thursday.

would appreciate any thoughts.

thank you,
debbie

Re: elevated thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibody

It seems you have auto immune thyroid disease or Hashimoto's. I would think your numbers (FREE T 3 and 4) would be on the low side. Some docs say normal when they are rock bottom. Most don't feel well there. Always get a copy of your labwork and compare your numbers to the reference ranges besides them.

Re: elevated thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibody

Thank you for your reply.

My T 4 was 9.1 (normal range is 4.5-10.9)
T 3 was 33.6 (normal range is 22.5- 37.0)
TSH was 1.86 (normal range 0.55- 4.78)

I will look further into Hashimoto's. I feel fine for the most part. I do have heart palpatations at times (was given a echocardiagram in Dec which was normal and a caratoid artery sonogram, normal too. These tests were taken after a bad fall down a flight of stairs. I also do not sleep well and although not over weight, have trouble dropping weight.

I am more concerned about having thyroid cancer than anything else. You have already made me feel better.

Thank you and God bless,
Deborah

Re: elevated thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibody

Yes, the antibodies just mean Hashi's or Graves (hyper), not cancer. Please ask them for the free testing. It shows what's available for your body to use and will give a more accurate reading than the "total" thyroid hormones which are the tests they ran instead.
