Alcohol

Ok, since New Years is comming, and this will be my first New Years since diagnosed hypo, I have a question on alcohol.
My friends and I let loose and party on this night, usually drinking a good share of alcohol. With me being hypo and not quite regulated, is that dangerous to my health? I really dont drink during the year, probably 4 social drinks total this whole year untill New Years. Im just wondering if I drink this one night will it harm my thryoid or anything..?
Thanks all! Hope you all have a good one!
Take care and be safe,
Lori

Re: Alcohol

The only problem I have with alcohol is that I get drunk very quickly(one drink and I can't walk straight, slurring - I'm on Synthroid .175) However, I sober up very quickly as well (much to many dates disappointment!). So just be careful. You might get sick before you know it. You might not be able to tolerate alcohol as well. Be sure and eat beforehand. Be with people you trust and have a great time!

Re: Alcohol

Hi!!

I have recently been diagnosed with Hoshimoto's and have begun treatment with Synthroid to regulate my TSH. I've noticed that when I drink alcohol (socially) I do not seem to feel the effects as much as my buddies, nor do I seem to have hangovers. I'm 23 and for the past 1.5 years I have been told I had a kidney ailment. I was later told by a Euronologist at the MAYO CLINIC that I had a TSH of 170 and my Hypothyroidism caused me to have elivated protien and water retension. Before vistiting MAYOS I was on a strict diet and seized all social activities with my friends. Now I feel much better and am starting to go out more often. I wouldn't worry much about the effects of alcohol while on Synthroid. I have my first appointment with my Endrocrynologist later this month and will get the details and let you know what he says.

Stay Well!!!!!!!

Damon
