Where do I begin???

I have been heavy my whole life (Im 5 ft 9 and 190 lbs). I eat healthy and get at least some sort of excercise on a daily basis (weither it be walking for 15 minutes on my break or actually working out at home). Ive never noticed this until just recently (I am trying to loose weight for my wedding next year). But at rest or in motion my heartbeat is always 20 or over beats per second then anyone else. Ex: My fiancee and I were at Kmart using the machine that checks the blood pressure (mine is fine) and his pulse was 80 but mine was 117. If my body is working so fast why am I so heavy? Why is it so hard for me to loose weight? Ive heard this may be due from an overactive thyroid. But I dont want to just call my dr clueless. I want to know what everyone out there may think. Do I have reason to be concerned?

Re: Where do I begin???

Welcome Shakdwn96. It is worth having thyroid blood tests to determine if this may be causing your overactive pulse. At a minimum, the doctor should check your Free T3, Free T4, TSH, and Thyroid Antibodies.

Some folks find they gain weight when their thyroid levels are low, but we're all different, and others gain weight as an indication of thyroid imbalance (whether it's low or high). Many folks find that they are unable to gain or lose when their thyroid hormones are not at the level that's healthy for them. Perhaps that's what's happening with you right now.

If you've not already done so, you might find it helpful to read through our Stories thread and Information Archive:
