I have read there are ways to try to lower the antibodies. What Im wanting to know is, Will these antibodies effect your health any other way? I mean I was told by my doctor that I was now Hypothyroid and will be taking sythroid the rest of my life. I allso read that the antibodies will destroy my thyroid in 6 to 18 months while taking the synthroid. On a prevous message I had said my anibodies TPO were 6,740. Normal being 0-34. What happens to those antibodies if my thyroid is destoyed? Will they effect me any other way?

I'm not certain the doctors know for sure what happens to our bodies when there is no thyroid for the antibodies to attack. My doctor believes that the antibodies do nothing, as they target thyroid receptors and binding proteins. My thyroid was removed after cancer, and my doc thinks it's just fine to let the antibodies remain. I'm not so sure about this, so I take Maca.

Getting adequate selenium in your diet can help lower antibodies in many cases. You might try supplementing 100mcg a day or more of Selenium (no more than 200mcg a day) to see if this helps. Especially while you still have a thyroid, the antibodies can cause symptoms even if thyroid levels are "normal".

After your thyroid is gone, it is inconclusive whether the antibodies have any effect.
