Anyone else a DES baby?

Hi,
This is my first posting. I was born in '66 and a DES born daughter. I have Hashimoto's, Graves' Disease with opthamology , along with some other stuff. I am on the DES list group but was a bit curious if there were many others on this site that were also DES exposed.

It seems that autoimmune diseases are a result of mother's taking DES while pregnant. This was given out like candy to pregnant mothers from 1931-1972ish or so. Just curious.

Thanks

Re: Anyone else a DES baby?

Explanation of DES:
DES is a hormone that was given to women that was SUPPOSE to help them carry babies to term and have healthier ones. It was put into vitamens and given under several different names to many women that might have problem carrying a baby to term. But the drug caused many added miscarraiges, poor outcomes and a legacy of autoimmune diseases, cancer and other problems for the babies that were born to these women.

Re: Anyone else a DES baby?

Hiya ikickinit4christ,
I was born in 59 and Mom was on some kind of meds, she said to prevent morning sickness. She had previously had miscarriages. Could have been DES for all I know, I'll ask. I have HAIT, Hypothyroid and tons and tons of other stuff goiing on. What exactly does "DES" stand for when I do a search I get nothing under "DES"?
Thanks,
Kim

Re: Anyone else a DES baby?

Hi Kim,
Thanks for your reply. There is a Des Action site, http://www.desaction.org/, that is helpful. The drug was actually given under a lot of different names, but they are listed on that site. There are also a couple of listserv's that are helpful I have other things wrong too, and have lost three children (a preemie at 6 months, one at 5 1/2 months geatation, and one at 7 months gestation...they died in-utero) I really believe that all this stuff is related to the DES. I hope that this site helps out! It seems that we have to be very active in our health care to receicve the right treatment! Good luck!

Hiya,
I'm really sorry to hear about your loss'. You have me curious now whether I was exposed. I went looking. Are you linking the Hashimoto's, Graves & Opthamology to DES or were you just stating you had it? If you're linking them to DES, could you provide a link to the website that links them together? I'd appreciate the help and yes I will ask Mom about exposure.
Thanks,
Kim

Re: Anyone else a DES baby?

Hi Kim,
There has been a link that shows autoimmune problems in DES exposed. That info should be available on the other sites I gave. You can also request that DES Action send you a packet of info reguarding DES problems. The number is 1-800-DES-9288. Good luck and God bless!
