Bruising

Hi All

Anyone else bruising very easilly? I have bruises on the back of my legs, my arms, just about anywhere I look and have no idea how or why? Could this be linked to Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's, high insulin, or dheas, or testosterone???

I have missed a period this month, have had pains in my fingers, and will be seeing my endocrinologist on the 15th of October for another checkup.... I am currently on 100mcg of Levoxyl (1mg) a day have been on thyroid meds since May.....last check - up, TSH was 11.4 (going down slowly), T4 was 0.7 and TPO was 70...

Thanks Sandy

Re: Bruising

Hi SandyC:

I was bruisng really easily before I beagn the thyroid med, and it is not nearly as bad as it was. Bruising can mean a vit. C deficiency. It may be thyroid related I am not sure...could be from the imbalance we get by not having the thyroid working right to balance everything else.

Now that I am getting close to my ideal dose, my brusing ahs eased up a great deal, but I am not sure if that is why. I do take vit. C daily now.

Re: Bruising

Hi Sandy,
I am normally a hyperthyroid patient (graves' disease) but am now extremely hypo due to my antithyroid drugs, which the doc has temporarily taken me off of to get me back up to level. Anyway, I too have noticed that I bruise a LOT easier, and not only that, but that when I do bruise, it takes forever for the stupid thing to go away! and I mean like forever! LOL
I think TF is right that alot of vitamin deficiencies can cause easy bruising, I believe not only with vit. C but also with alot of B vitamins too....but, I tend to think the reason we have these deficiencies is probably due to our thyroids, who knows? lol
But I will add, that these bruises are really sore like a normal everyday bruise from banging into something or what not.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth lol.

Re: Bruising

Hi Sandy. I was just thinking about posting the same question. I've always bruised easily, but lately the darn things last two-three weeks. (I currently have a bright yellow spot on my neck from acupuncture 2 weeks ago.)

I'm still getting straightened out medically, and although I'm usually hypo, my meds currently have me slightly hyper.

Thanks for the nutrition tips TF and T&W. I'll up my Vit B&C. Never really concerned me enough to research it.

Re: Bruising

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the Tips - I will try the extra vits, as I have cut back on the C and B lately....Off to the store to buy some OJ!!!

I am glad <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/tongue.gif"> that there are others with bruising too, as I am always thinking the worst!!! I am also going to examine the "low Adrenal" thing, as I read that that too ties in with thyroid probs.

Thanks again for replies
Sandy

Re: Bruising

Don't forget,
take thyroid med with water only.
No calcium such as in milk products or calcium in OJ for at least an hour.
Calcium binds with thyroid so it won't be useble.

Wait an hour after taking thyroid med before taking any meds or dairy products.
Take other hormones SEVERAL hours later.
