I was told by a lady who is hypo, that multivitamins containing IODINE and KELP could b interfering with my thyroid medication.
The multivitamin that i am taking contains 50 mcgs of iodine. I have also noticed that it contains calcium pantothenate 75mgs, calcium ascorbate dihydrate 200mgs and calcium citrate 200mgs(equiv 42mgs calcium) and iron 4.9mgs among other things such as selenium, coQ10 etc etc.
i know calcium interferes with the med as does iron.
I've stopped taking them as i wonder if they are contributing to the way i am still feeling.
What do u all think?
As far as the Iron and Calcium are concerned, as long as you take them 4 or more hours away from your thyroid meds, they are not a problem.
On the subject of iodine, most people in developed countries don't really need the extra iodine, especially if you use iodized salt. I can't see how a little would hurt, but personally, I tend to avoid iodine supplements, just to be on the safe side.
