My brother

My 30 year old brother has been having major symptoms of hyper-thyroid since he was a teen. They keep testing his TSH and it comes back normal. His symptoms are bulgy eyes, rapid heart, being really skinny, dizziness, that I know of, I know there are more too. Thyroidism runs in our family, my grandma had hypo and her sister did too. And of course I do also. He just got the most recent test results back here they are:

TSH: 1.89 [low=.540 high=5.7]
T3: 1.35 [low=0.8 high=1.8]
T4: 8.6 [low=4.5 high=11.7]

They all appear normal. Now what tests should he get? TRH, Antibodies, those and/or anything else to make sure? We want to find out if he doesnt have a thyroid problem so we can look for what else may cause this.
Thanks for any ideas <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">
Lori

Re: My brother

Hi Lori,
He sounds like my husband, but he does not have an irregular thyroid balance. My son, also.

Maybe he needs a doc that really looks at the symptoms...does he have an enlarged heart, excessive sweating, fevers?

I think he could get TRH, Antibody, and Free T4 tests.

But why wait for those tests, he should get other blood work in a thorough check up.
