Hello,
I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this symptom? I have been on synthroid for about 8 months now. I am noticing my eyeballs are super sore, and feel really strained and tired. Does anyone else notice this? Its hard to keep my eyes open all day. Thats the only thing I notice besides my mood swings, because of feeling like this! Please anyones help would be appreciated!!
Thanks,
Emily
Hi Emily Halstead,
Are you really tired, otherwise?
Are you getting enough rest, doing any detail or close-up work, or anything that can strain your eyes?
Do you have allergies?
Do you ahve any hyper symptoms? Do you anger easily? What do you experience that you call mood swings?

I've noticed a lot of eye strain, itching, and intolerance for my contact lenses. My eyes are very dry and sting when I wake up in the morning. And, at night, they water quite a bit for no apparent reason.
This is apparently common for those of use with Thyroid antibodies (Hashimoto's) and for hyperthyroid (Grave's) patients as well. There are some named conditions ("Thyroid Eye Disease" and "Grave's Opthalmopathy"), but descriptions and pictures of the more severe cases are a bit off-putting, so I'm being selective in the websites I list below. Hyperthyroid folks typically have a "thyroid stare" (like typical staring into space, but a bit more often), and may have eyes that are slightly bulging in appearance.
I really like the moisturizing-type of Visine for its soothing properties. It's one of the only things that doesn't sting, and it doesn't have the redness-out ingredient (which the docs say we should avoid for this sort of thing). Keeping my eyes moist really seems to help a lot. And I'm learning to like my glasses.
Here's a couple of links about eye symptoms:

Be sure to mention these symptoms to your doctor. And to your eye care professional (if you have one).
Thanks for both replies!
Yes, tree frog I do get angry very easily. I go into a rage and say the meanest things. I truly don't mean it, and feel remore after. I have a baby that is 19 months old, and he is getting into everything every 2 seconds! I also have another child but she is in school. I get overwelmed very easily. Especially when my monthly is due! Around then I seem to be impossible to tolerate. I can't even help myself.
My eyes are sore and feel tired. I also feel tired, but I felt this way before my doctor started me on synthroid. I have been on it for about 8 months now. My eyes get blurry, and sore, and its hard to focus on things because they ache so bad.
I don't know what to think? My doctor is acting like its depression. Would depression cause my eye balls to be sore.
Thanks for the advice, I may try the visine!!
