I bumped up my Communication With My Doc topic, so please read that and the Information Archive topic for useful info of how to talk with docs, a symptoms checklist, etc. You can print out the symptom list and add any others you have, whether or not you think they are related, and take this to a new doctor. Don't assume the next one you get will be the one to help you. It may take awhile. People can post doctor names and cities and states, too, on these boards, so it may help to ask if anyone knows of one near you.
It is helpful to take copies of lab tests from the last several times you were tested and a written list of symptoms.
Never put weight loss at the top of your list if you want to be taken seriously. (Too many other issues affect weight loss, and a thyroid pill seldom makes that difference.)
I asked for Synthroid only because I knew the first doc did not want to treat me at all, and that was the only med he would prescribe. I was on it a few months, before getting my last endo, a very good one, that began me on Levoxyl. However, I was on that a long time, and still looked hypo to a newer doc who asked me if I wanted to try Armour, which I had wanted to try from the beginning! I do notice that I feel more normal than in years, on the Armour.
My goodness, what a big circle of events that was before getting a doc willing to even try the Armour.
And she has raised my dose, today, since I, like you, have had no sex drive, my skin is still dry, and my pulse is low (68). She also prescribed a low dose of estrogen with a bit of testosterone, to see if that boosts my libido. (our poor spouses!!!) So, you may want to ask a gyn about that, if your endo is not willing to try it.
Since you were hyperthyroid you did need some kind of treatment to fix that before your life was threatened by it, so that was right to do. It does mean one has to go hypo and get treated, though.
Now you need a doc that will tweak your dose and keep track of your thyroid needs. The great docs are out there, sweetie.
If you have any more questions, just post on this thread and I and others will reply. I don't have all the answers, by far, but I am here for ya!
