Could you tell me if all of you went to an endo too get your diagnosis? I seen my family doctor and he referd me to a General surgeon ( I know the Dr. real well that is doing my surgery ) He has done a few other surgery on me and my family, Also there will be 2 Dr. in at the time of my Thyroid surgery... Should I see an Endo Dr?? I read allot about them on here.. Thanks Marcia
Although I don't know a whole lot about thyroid surgery, I do know that you should have a surgeon who is very experienced in that area. There is a chance of vocal cord paralysis and other more serious complications (tracheotomey). The more experienced your surgeon is, the less of a chance of complications from surgery. I would suggest that you see a specialist in that area, either an endocrinologist or an octolaryngologist. In my case, I saw both, my endo. doesn't actually do the surgery and he referred me to an octolaryngologist. My endo. said that I should have a surgeon you does several thyroidectomies a month and who has done at least 15-20 of them overall. I hope this helps.
I agree wholeheartedly with Keico, but since your surgery is scheduled for today, you may already have made your choice.
Your GP sounds like he's done a good job with your diagnosis, but it would probably be best to see and Endocrinologist after surgery. An Endo would likely have more experience with thyroid disease and current treatment options, so an Endo may be better able to help balance your levels and answer your questions than your GP.
Thanks, I have my surgery tomorrow morning.. The Dr. did call and had a ekg and more blood work done and he is seeing me at 2:50 . He put me on Steroid and my heart went wild so he was concern and had me in asap.. I am so happy I found this board you have all helped me so much.. Thanks for everything.marcia

Feel free to cancel the surgery if you want a consult with an endo, or to ask your doctor how many thyroid surgeries he/she has done> Perhaps you can find this out tonight by phone.

I have talk too the Dr. and he has done over 20 himself( some cancer some not) He has only been here for a year. and the other Dr, that will be assisting has done over 75, I have alot of faith in them both and feel that all will be fine they are both christian and that is a real big plus for me. , ( God is in control) Please keep me in your prayers..
