Question Quick TSH Lab Question

When I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism, my total TSH was 9.14 and was put on 25mg of Levothyroxine for starters. Went back in 8 weeks, and made a little progress….TSH went down to 4.52 but still wasn’t therapeutic so my dose was bumped up to 50mg. After 6 weeks on 50mg I went in for a follow-up and my TSH went up to 5.58. Starting tomorrow I will take 100mg.

(Note: I’ve had FT3 and FT4s checked as well……FT3 looks good, FT4 was an 8 back in Sept…didn’t have that rechecked).

My question is, is it that abnormal for my numbers to go back up so soon?

July – TSH 9.14
September – TSH 4.52
November – TSH 5.58

Thank you!!

Re: Quick TSH Lab Question

If you have Hashi's, your TSH will fluctuate up and down.

Did they test your TPO antibodies to determine if you have Hashis?

Your doctor should also be testing your Free T3, Free T4 and Vitamin D levels. TSH is not the whole picture.

Back in September I was tested for Hashi's and I do not have this.
My vitamin-d result didn't come back yet, hopefully tomorrow.

My T3 and T4 was tested in September...but she did not retest it yesterday.

Re: Quick TSH Lab Question

There is so little difference between 4.52 and 5.58 that you could say there was no change. The dose increase is justified.

Thank you, I'm just trying to figure it all out AND hoping I feel better soon . I was just surprised I took even a small step back.

I appreciate your comment, it does make me feel a bit better.
