RAI Question

Doing research for my wife as I am tired of doctors not being able to help her..... My question is......

If my wife had RAI and her RAI uptake shows that she has no thyroid and her levels are showing normal then why is she feeling so bad? She is exploring getting tested for Hashimoto's disease and other Autoimmune disease, but if her Thyroid is inactive then will these tests work. Can someone please help me understand this better?

Within the last year I\she has gotten off birth control pills, gotten off prozac, exercises 3-4 times a week and eats a very healthy diet yet she is as tired as ever and cannot lose a single pound.

There is tons of info out there but most of it talks about people that still have an active thyroid.

Confused - please help.

Re: RAI Question

Sorry to hear your wife is feeling so poorly - very nice of you to seek help on her behalf.

I suspect your wife's levels, while in the normal range, are not HER normal.

Many doctors do not provide adequate doses of thyroid hormone replacement meds.

While the tests you mentioned might provide more info, the bottom line is the same - her thyroid levels need to be at the "place" within the ranges of normal that will leave her without symptoms.

If you'd like to share some of her lab history here, we can try to sort things out.

Please list her FreeT4, FreeT3 and TSH results, including ranges since they vary from lab to lab.
