Lab Results help appreciated

Hi,

I'm currently travelling in Asia and went to a doctor to get my thyroid levels checked as I've been doing so annually for the last 5 years.

In my home country all I was ever told was that I'd tested positive for antibodies and they gave me medication. No lab results were ever discussed, so I'm confused now that I have a load of results, as I don't know what they mean.

Any help interpreting them would be greatly appreciated:

Anti thyroid peroxidase 33.69
Anti-thyroglobulin 121.58
T3 1.68 nmol/L 109.4 ng/dl
Free T4 22.91 pmol/L 1.78 ng/dl
TSH 0.007 uU/ml

Thanks in advance.

Re: Lab Results help appreciated

Like me and many others, you have Hashimotos thyroiditis. It is the auto immune version of being hypothyroid.

To interpret the results we'd need the reference ranges for them However it seems your FT4 is on the high side and TSH low which would indicate that you're on the hyperT side. So you're on hypoT medication? Any symptoms?

Re: Lab Results help appreciated

Oh, crap, didn't realise. Here are the reference ranges:

Anti thyroid peroxidase 33.69 (0.50-5.61)
Anti-thyroglobulin 121.58 (0.31-4.11)
T3 1.68 nmol/L (0.89-2.45) 109.4 ng/dl (58.00-159.00)
Free T4 22.91 pmol/L (9.0-19.05) 1.78 ng/dl (0.7-1.48)
TSH 0.007 uU/ml (0.35-4.94)

Currently on 200mcg levothyroxine.

Symptoms at the moment: problems sleeping, either can't stay asleep, or sleep forever, really tired all the time, really depressed and sad, bad skin and mood swings.

Thanks to those who replied, and in advance for any advice.

Re: Lab Results help appreciated

Ok, so your TSH and FT4 would truly indicate hyperT but your T3 does not (and T3 is the hormone that counts the most). The T3 level should also be "free" to be accurate but it's very possible there is clear imbalance in your levels - your FT4 should be lower and the amount of T3 should be higher. I think you could benefit from a T3 supplement. When taking T3 you could drop your levothyroxine a bit, add a bit of T3 and your thyroid levels (and you) would be more balanced . Usually people need to have their freeTs around midrange or closer to the high end of the range.
