Re: 9 days without synthroid/total thyroidectomy
I agree, call the surgeon, or try to get to see an endocrinologist (try a waiting list or something), or call and leave a message for the new doctor to call back, and say "I had my thyroid removed x weeks ago, please have the doctor call me and tell me if it's okay that I have no renewal for my medication.....please ask him to call me..."
I find often it's not the doctors that prevent you from getting what you need but the staff.
In the meantime, I was without meds for 6 weeks after my surgery for cancer treatment/rai prep, and I'll tell you by week 4 it hit me. Of course, you will survive if you don't have it for a few weeks, but it's not pleasant.
I think you should keep trying, also, I think a visit with an endo. is helpful after a thyroidectomy, the regular doctor can manage after.
