Exclamation PAIN - any ideas to deal with

Hi I have two nodules on my thyroid. I get intermittent hoarseness and breathing difficulty, which then leads to bad pain and swelling. The pain is there however every day, also enlarged lymph nodes. Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with the pain?

Have you had an FNA? Pain is not a good sign for nodules, nor are the enlarged lymph nodes. You may have to have those removed. If they are causing breathing issues, you should see a surgeon.

In the meantime, try some advil/motrin for the discomfort.

Re: PAIN - any ideas to deal with

Thanks for your help! You are so right, I absolutely love these health boards, they have not only become helpful with information but support as well! I wish the simple pain relievers worked, I have a perscribed anti-inflammatory/ pain relief that was helping before, and my doctor also gave me T3 for really bad days - they don't bother me, but I know the risks with them so I don't use them unless it's unbearable (I also have three young children, so I try to limit what I take so as to not become useless to them)
The problem the surgeons have with touching it are two things: 1) they believe that the nodule isnt big enough to cause breathing or voice problems, though I have had nurses notice the voice problem and defend what I am saying. My secon problem is that it is so close to my artery (which is one of the two brain blood suppliers) that they don't want to touch it, not even for an FNA, they r worried about nicking it. I was told that an endo won't see me here, as I don't have a problem with my thyroid, I have a lump, so I have to see a general surgeon, which makes me a little nervous. I can't imagine what u ladies have to go through with nodules and thyroid disorders! I am the only woman in my family of four generations that doesn't have a disorder, and only one with this problem - but I remember what my mom went through and my best wishes to you! Thank you for ur advice
