Havent gone to bathroom in 2 weeks

This is embarassing, but Im glad these boards are here. only 2 more days till my 1st Endo visit, and Im counting the hours. I havent been able to produce a bowel movement in 2 weeks. This is over 3 weeks now on Levithyroxin. I have taken correctol, ate 1 and half boxes of fiber bars, drinking water etc. Still have bulge below right rib, and now major bloating ( of course) in stomach. Nausea is starting to kick in. Ready to go back to ER, but Im going to wait until I see Endo.

Re: Havent gone to bathroom in 2 weeks

I think most of us have dealt with issues such as yours to some degree.

I suspect you need a higher dose of levothyroxine.

Members of my first-ever thyroid forum recommended this Ayurvedic herbal product called "Triphala" - it is a colon-cleansing product and works great in a gentle way.

I never found the standard remedies of increased fiber, etc. to help with "thyroid-induced" constipation but, Triphala did the trick.

Re: Havent gone to bathroom in 2 weeks

Not all cases of constipation are caused by thyroid. You have four of the seven most common symptoms of bowel obstruction. If you haven't passed anything at all in two weeks (not even gas), you definitely should not wait for the endo visit. (He isn't the kind of doctor who investigates stomach bulges, anyway.) You really need to be seen in the ER.

I would not wait, go to the ER right away. Two days is too long to wait when you are having the symptoms you describe. Get yourself in and let us know what happens, will you?

Please head right on in...it is not worth the wait. You can still go to the endo after being seen in the ER.

Re: Havent gone to bathroom in 2 weeks

I took suppository last night and had very minimal amount this morning. So Im trying another supp this am. I will call my primary care physician right now, thank you for your suggestions. I feel kinda silly not knowing what is serious and what is not. I will let you all know.
