Question Effects of alcohol after thyroid removal?

What could be the effects on someone with almost total thyroid removal after consuming alcohol and not taking any thyroid medication at the time? What effects would it have on blood levels and other pertinent issues? Thank you...

no idea about the alcohol part, but almost total thyroid removal in combination with NOT taking any thyroid meds... that sure sounds like a bad combination. I can imagine the person feeling bad, but hardly think it would be caused by alcohol, which of course would not help either.

Re: Effects of alcohol after thyroid removal?

I think we all know that consuming alcohol causes an increase in blood glucose levels.

I know that, for proper thyroid function, we need steady blood glucose levels.

And, without a thyroid, a person NEEDS to be taking thyroid hormone replacement at all times to ensure that every body system has the thyroid hormone it needs to function properly.

If you're concerned about interactions, there are none.

Thyroid hormone is not a med per se....it replaces the vital thyroid hormone your body no longer gets from your now-absent thyroid.
