Smile advice on vitamins

I am taking vitamins. Vitamin B and C and calcium tablets. I would like to know if this is the right thing to be doing seen I have Graves Disease. I have read that some patients have been advised to take vitamin D. Would this be advisable? Thanks in advance

Re: advice on vitamins

I also gave some advice in your other post on vitamins. First too much of a good thing can be toxic when it comes to vitamins. Before you start an extensive vitamin supplement regime test your starting levels. That said thyroid sufferers are frequently poor absorbers of vitamins so supplementation should help you. Just get the blood work done first.

If the vitamins you listed. You have to beware of calcium supplements. You need good D levels for optimal absorption of Calcium and iron. In addition Calcium carbonate blocks absorption of thyroid medication. You will need to take Ca 8 hours before or 4 hours after your thyroid supplementation.

Good luck! Hope things get better soon.
I supplement with an active men's multivit and a super b complex and calcium and vitamin d and magnesium.. Think I got them all. I was deficient by blood results before starting these meds. I get my levels checked every 6 months to make sure I am taking the right amount of vitamins.

Hope this helps.

Re: advice on vitamins

Your welcome. Glad I could help. I tend toward a more scientific treatment regime for my thyroid and other issues. It has helped when arguing with my MDs for testing and the like that they don't feel is necessary. I mean it is my money, there are tests to prove whether or not there is an issue. Heck I am the one putting out 10-13 vials of blood. The MD just needs to check some boxes on a form and sign! Whoops didn't mean to start a rant. Hope you feel better soon! I also hope you are getting the care you deserve!

Smile Re: advice on vitamins

I go to 2 state hospitals. One is for a 6 monthly checkup. The other one is every month for medication and blood tests. But I think now that I know that I have to take calcium tablets either 8 hours before or 4 hours after things will be beta now. I was taking my medication on a full stomach instead of a empty stomach and not half an hour before I eat..and taking the tablets all together was proberly resulting in my thyroid levels been messed up. So I will take my medication as I have read up and by wat you have told me. I really appreciate it thankyou.
