is there a possibility that my son is having a reversed T3 RT3?
i dont have a clue, can any one help me in this point?
does my son need a raise in his dose of levothyroxine ?
or does he need to check the RT3
is cortisol involved here?
and what supports more my fears, is that his FT3 is higher than the normal range but his pediatric endo said that this reading is of no value, and no more tests of FT3 required, what matters is the FT4 only , and the TSH ! that are shown above !
i am in deep need of any help , please .
his sleepy eyes keeps screaming in my mind (mom i cant wake up), this breaks my heart

any extra FT3 result high above normal range, does this count for any thing, or means any thing ?
his doctor said, that FT3 is not important and she doesn't need this test and its useless !

Nisreen, your son's lab readings and symptoms are very puzzling. Two things come to mind (though I am by no means knowledgeable in this area).
The first is that he could have thyroid hormone resistance, which could explain his elevated TSH and thyroid hormones. The second is that there could be a pituitary problem, which would necessitate an MRI.
I do think that you need a second opinion. Where do you live? Are you seeing a pediatric endocrinologist?
Hi Nisreen- I've just read through your entire post- I joined the conversation late. I see you are in Jordan. Is it possible to take your son to a pediatric endocrinologist in London? Would your ex-husband allow you to take him out of the country if he thought you were going on a vacation? Has he had an MRI yet? I think this is necessary. If the problem is thyroid hormone resistance (which I suspect more so than a pituitary problem), then his dose will have to be raised so that his TSH is closer to 1.8 (average TSH for his age) and his thyroid hormones may have to go over range. Please ask these questions of his doctor, if you haven't already and let us know what she says. Best of luck.

i just got the new results for my boy they are not good,
@28/6/2012
FT4 16.8 pmol/L NR(9.1-23.0 )
TSH 4.1 MU/ml NR (0.350-5.010)
they did not check his FT3, can anyone please give me advise, he is still with lots of hypo symptoms? i read it could be due to low iron or low cortisol , please advise what to do
i dont know what to do regarding correcting the cortisol if there are problems in it, our appointment with the endo next week, i will check cortisol, any help with lab results or supplements will be highly appreciated
first:
she raised the dose of levothyroxine to 50 microgram every day
the previous doses was 25 micro grams 3 days, 50 micro grams 4 days
second:
she approved to request the iron full panel tests, cortisol test, FT3, FT4, and TSH, although i wanted to request RT3, but this test is not available here in Jordan
all these tests will be done after 6 weeks , on Sep, 9 , until then i will be supplementing him with iron and looking for other supplements, can anyone comment or interpret or advise regarding the results and the doctor decision, i need any feed back please
His high TSH could mean that his FT3 level needs help so, it's good that level will be checked next time. (I wouldn't worry about a rT3 test....based upon my research, the FT3 test really tells all one needs to know about T3 levels)
His TSH could also indicate that his FT4 level is still a little too low for him so, the small dose increase is appropriate.
If you do have him supplementing iron, please make sure any iron supplements are taken at least 4 hours away from his thyroid meds since iron significantly interferes with absorption.
Hopefully, your son is taking a good multi-vitamin that is appropriate for his age and, additional Vit D3 if his level was shown deficient.
Best of luck to you both moving forward - please keep us posted!
he is already on iron since 2 weeks only, unfortunately, he is not on any supplements, and i am looking for a multivitamin with selenium, b complex and D3 , to improve his conversion. the note of 4 hours between levo and iron well noted
i started also to take his temp. , along to compare with my temp. and his sister's, i have read this does give info about conversion thing, i will post here after a week.
thank you for everything ,your help to simo, me and all of us , members in this forum
