Weight Issues

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone can give me some feed back on weight gain.

I commenced Thyroxine (50 mg) 5 weeks ago and go for the first bloods this week (albeit only the minimum dose) they have helped with the sweats but I am putting weight on - 14 lbs in 4 weeks??

I was wondering if t3 AND t4 have anything to do with this as well.

As Sammy has said before I am very very hypo but I thought that when I Went on the tablets my metabolism would speed up and I would start to lose some weight - Lots of it - I dream!!!

All the tests are going up and up and I was wondering if anyone may be able to give me some clues?

Thanks

Re: Weight Issues

Can you post your labs? I'm not really sure what you mean by they're going up? You mean your free thyroid hormones are rising and you are still not losing weight?
Since 50 mcg is not a therapeutic dose, I would not expect to be losing weight yet. It is tough that you are gaining though. I have been on thyroid medication for 9 weeks- first a starting dose of synthroid and now a starting dose of desiccated and I am more hypothyroid than before. I am told this is normal though, as your thyroid tends to stop producing as much hormone as before once it senses a small rise from the exogenous hormone. Once you reach a more optimal dose, hopefully that will resolve. I definitely find that I am less hungry this month, not gaining (thank God) or losing weight though.
