removing the thyroid or radioactive iodine?
I have been diagnosed with Graves diease. I have had 3 opinions. 2 recommend radioactive iodine and one the surgery.
I was on the propylthiouracil and it worked for a while but my latest blood results showed my numbers to be very high once more. First specialist i saw she completly took me off the propylthiouracil to get me ready for the radioactive iodine pill. After 3 days I experienced a thyroid storm. It was the most horrible experience of my life. My GP recommended another doctor who put me on Methimazole which after 1 week of taking woke up one moring with hives all over my body, swollen lips and tongue. Called her and she returned my call after 2 days and told me to stop that medication and go back on the propythiouracil? Nice Doc right?? She also recommended the radioactive iodine treatment. Third Doctor I went to recommended the surgery since I cannot be off the meds and having allergic reactions. I am so confused...doing my own research I read various expert opionions on the pros and cons of both treatments. Can someone give me their experience or knowledge of advice on what I should do?
Any advice, comments would help!!
