Hi, I was talking to a doctor recently about natural thyroid and she said that she does use it but not very much because she feels that there may be prions present in it due to it being an animal product. She said that they can alter the cell and are very difficult to eradicate even at high temperatures.
Can anyone clarify this for me. I am considering switching and I am researching it at the moment.
If you're talking about Armour, my understanding is that it can only be made from pigs that are grain-fed and intended for human consumption, and inspected by the USDA. So I don't think you would be at any more risk than, say, if you ate bacon every day. But that's just my understanding of it, and I am not a doctor or a farmer.

Your MD is ignorant of the composition of natural dessicated thyroid. It's porcine tissue, not bovine. The CDC reports no possibility of transmissible disease from porcine prions.
Your doctor's reasoning is laughable for someone who should be knowledgeable in the field of science.
