| Effect of prednisone on thyroid
Hello and thank you in advance for any help. This is my first post.
I have been hypothyroid for years and recently my TSH has spiked at 14.5.
T4 results were normal, as were a.m. cortisol levels.
For an apparently unrelated symptom (suspected ocular myasthenia) I have been prescribed 20 mg of Prednisone. As soon as I started taking the steroids I noted a marked improvement in energy and mental functioning.
The sluggishness I have been suffering from for years fell away.
However, since within a month of taking 20mg Prednisone daily, I started to experience symptoms such as excessive sweating, pounding and irregular heartbeat, and inability to sleep more than 2-3 hours a night, I have reduced my daily dose to 5 mg which has eliminated those symptoms.
Does anyone have insight into the effects of steroids on hypothyroidism?
