Feeling lousy and hoping for some answers

After feeling pressure where my thyroid is located and seeing some swelling in that area I went to the Endo doc to be seen. He said I had nodules and my thyroid was huge and would probably need to be removed. This is at a teaching hospital and he was in training. The doctor overseeing him came in and said well we aren't just removing them anymore so if your Ultra sound and blood tests are okay we won't remove it. I still need to go in for the needle aspiration. Anyway, I also have GERDS they say and I am having lots of coughing, shortness of breath, some mucus and always having to clear my throat. I also have a hoarse voice sometimes. Do you think the coughing and shortness of breath could be from the thyroid and not the Gerds? I feel like the doctors just listen then give you another appointment 3 months down the road. I'm getting so tired and frustrated and the not being able to breath sometimes freaks me out.

Re: Feeling lousy and hoping for some answers

I guess the best solution is to treat the GERDS, then see if that eliminates the coughing and shortness of breath. If not, thyroid swelling seems the obvious answer.
Having a thyroidectomy first would be a radical step if you were to find out afterward it was the GERDS all along.
