Question Med dosage not working but can't tolerate going up

Hi Everyone,

Just had half my thyroid removed 4 weeks ago due to suspicious nodule (ended up being benign) and I continue to have symptoms. I have a quick question for you....I am on levothyroxine and liothyronine and every time I try to up it slowly I can't seem to tolerate it. However, when I stay where I am, I continue to have symptoms and never feel fully good or like myself. Do I switch meds? What does this mean? I am saddened to think that this is as good as it gets.

Thanks!

Re: Med dosage not working but can't tolerate going up

I'm sorry you're struggling like this.
do you have any recent labresults if so please feel free to post including the reference ranges, without those it's hard to comment on what is going on and how things can be improved.
Very likely your levels are still off but due to the disbalance of T4 and T3 you cannot go up. but I cannot make assumptions without the correct information being the bloodresults.
good to know that T3 is much more potent (about 4 times in theory) then T4. how much of what a person needs is quite indivual but normal people (without thyroid problem) have free levels FT4 and FT3 of about 60-80% of the ranges so it's a good starting point to aim for that)
What is the dosage you're on from both?

Re: Med dosage not working but can't tolerate going up

At four weeks, your body is just losing all the hormone you lost when you had your thyroid. It may get easier now that your body is starting to need the additional hormone. Also, sometimes it just takes a while to get used to being on hormone. It took me over 4 months to get to the right dose, and then longer to feel fine on it.

Little additional note I apologize for the confusion, wanted to help earlier but apparently should not have because looking back my foggy mind somehow overlooked the 4weeks. Can only agree with reece of course.
