I was just wondering what everyones thyroglobulin levels were before RAI?
I had thyroid tissue left in my neck after surgery and then had the low dose RAI, and at that point my thyroglobulin level was 10.
Now I have had my WBS and it showed quite a faint and ghostly outline of the thyroid tissue. My consultant has said that I can come back in a year providing my thyroglobulin is ok, but what would it be expected to be? Especially as it looks like it was still partly there? I am a bit confused as to whether the ablation worked or not?
I didn't have any follow up for a year, I had one wbs after one year, and then only test my thyroglobulin every six months, and have a neck ultrasound and no more wbs.
Every doctor has different protocols. The main thing is not your baseline thyroglobulin (it just measures thyroid tissue which of course you would have before rai), but that you need to know if you have thyroglobulin antibodies to see if thyroglobulin will be a good marker for you or not.
You would want after a year, your thyroglobulin to be "undetectable" if possible.
