| SREAT or Hashimoto Encephalopathy
My husband was diagnosed with Steroid Responsive Encephalopathy in Association with Autoimmune Thyroiditis (SREAT) in March of 2012. He had been hospitalized three times with stroke-like symptoms, going back to November of 2010. But CT Scans and MRIs were normal. Still, he was near coma, and fortunately was treated with steroids, which reanimated him. The neurologist who treated him in emergency was another fortunate thing, because he had seen another case of this rare disease 10 years before. My husband was put on a steroid regimen and things returned to normal. But the medication is diminished by 5ml each month. He is due to be totally of steroids by March. However, for about a week now, my husband has been experiencing rapid movements while asleep, some shouting, and has three times fallen out of bed. He has been very irritable for a couple of days. Here is my question: Could this be a re-occurance of SREAT, or just stress?
