| Tolerance to Synthroid
Hello all.
I'm a 27 yo female who was born with congenital hypothryoidism (since birth) and have been on medication for my entire life. Back in 2011, I had a sub total thyroidectomy due to a very large goiter that my endocrinologist was concerned about. While the goiter was luckily benign, my Synthroid dose ended up increasing from 200mcg to a whopping 400 mcg (what I read is the maximum safe dosage). What I worry is, my family has a very big history of addictive personalities. Sometimes even 4 Red Bulls will do nothing to me so I have to cycle caffeine. Throughout my life, I go through periods of being well medicated and then out of nowhere, the medication will go awry. In the past 5 years I have had TSH results as high as 56 and 34. Each time, I got bumped higher. As I am on 400mcg now, I fret that if I develop a tolerance, there is no safe place to go. I see a new endocrinologist in a month (I am AD military and switch doctors a lot). But in the mean time, I've been gaining weight while eating healthy and exercising 4 times a week. Plus the cold intolerance and fatigue have been creeping up. I know what it feels like to be "low"....but where can I go from here?
