Newbie here

Hi peeps, will try to be brief....went to a family doc for check up. She felt my throat, said she suspected a nodule sent me for an ultra sound. That came back with a solid nodule 1cm on left and multiple smaller nodules. She sent me to endo doc, she informed me I have Hashimoto's disease, and wanted a biopsy. Biopsy doc took several fna from both sides of thyroid and 3 lymph nodes...OUCH. Okay back to Endo for results, 1cm nodule came back as suspicious for malignancy of papillary carcinoma, with 3 other lymph nodes benign. Off to surgeon now as Endo says @ least 1/2 should come out. Surgeon says family doc could not have felt nodule and shouldn't have ordered ultra sound, and Endo doc was wrong to order biopsy on 1cm nodule "too small" and biopsy report "big mess" should not have gone after the smaller nodules and was not ordered to check lymph nodes and report is not clear if benign is the other nodules or lymph nodes.....but based on this my choices are 1) remove 1/2 2) remove all 3) wait till June and have a second ultra sound....thinking about finding another Endo for second opinion, if anyone is still awake advice please!

Re: Newbie here

Welcome to the boards, but sorry you have such a complicated issue going on. First, I would get copies of all your labs, ultrasound result and biopsy results. Then I would ask your endo for a referral to a different surgeon for a second opinion. I would not wait until June. I have a dislike for Drs who immediately accuse all the other Drs involved in a case of doing everything wrong, including the pathologist who examined and reported on the tissue samples. I think he has a big ego and is making this more difficult for you by undermining your confidance in your other Drs. I would get a new surgeon and a new assessment. It is possible to have Hashi's and have a thyroid cancer develop within the abnormal gland. One can feel a 1 cm nodule, and if it felt very firm or suspicious, your doc was right in ordering a biopsy. This has to be very difficult for you as it is without having a Dr. causing confusion and doubt about everything that has been done. Hope your next surgeon is a nice one that will help you decide the best way to treat this.
