hi Jess,
yes this sounds right 50 mcg (some start out lower but 50 mcg is a common starting dosage), retesting after 6 weeks is normal since it takes that long to reflect an accurate picture in the bloodlevels and dosage will be adjusted accordingly.
the 'free' levels (FT4 and FT3) are more accurate (not sure which form of T4 and T3 has been tested this time) so it might be an idea to ask your doctor to have the frees done next time.
I'd also ask to have the antibodies tested, nothing can/will be done about those, but since you're starting out, I think it's good to have them done so you have that information.
