Re: Do I need treatment for hypothyroidism...

I believe you do need treatment since it seems you have hypothyroidism. Most labs have an upper limit for TSH on 5.0, your first measurement was 4.8 which is pretty high and you are later above 5 points. So, I am not a doctor but I believe you do need thyroid medication.
I am on medication myself, and I came back with TSH at 3.5, which I though it was normal because the reference range was up to 5 points. However, it seems that recent studies have shown that the 5 points upper limit is too loose to normal ranges and many labs &/ doctors have narrowed the normal TSH level in a maximum of 3.0. That is the reason I was told I needed medication.
I recommend you to consult another Endo.

Re: Do I need treatment for hypothyroidism...

Thank you so much for your reply. I have started taking Thyroxin 50m each day. Am only a week in do haven't noticed any changes yet. I was reluctant to start meds but after reading up on things I felt it could only help.
I hope you are getting help too?
Fingers crossed I will be full of beans again soon
Thanks again...

Re: Do I need treatment for hypothyroidism...

Hello
Its me again! I'm in a bit of a panic re-Thyroid and I always feel better after getting a bit of advice .
I have an appointment with my doctor on Monday to discuss Thyroid antibodies test results. The doctor's receptionist told me they have come back positive :/ but she wouldnt elaborate. Is this really bad news?...
i am still having big problems sleeping/feel exhausted in the morning. sweats have become a big problem day and night. I have been taking the Thyroxin for 3 weeks now, and not noticing any changes. Any advice would be really appreciated.
I wouldnt have had the antibodies test if it wasnt for this site! I wrote the tests down and requested them, looks like its a good job I did!
Thanks in advance )))....
